Sekaa Angklung Gita Kencana, like many other angklung ensembles in Bali, has a primary responsibility to accompany Bali-Hindu ceremonies with its sweet and uplifting sound. But this ensemble of 23 musicians has distinguished itself in other realms as well. Its highly developed instrumental sound, repertoire, and playing skills have brought it civic honors, including first prize in the island-wide gamelan competitions of the Bali Arts Festival. This 1992 recording focuses on the group’s kelentengan (traditional angklung) repertoire.
